On March 1, 2020 the Strathmore Overnight Shelter will be holding its fourth annual walk to raise funds and awareness about homelessness in Strathmore. Walk in From the Cold is held in the winter to acknowledge the reality of how hard it is to be homeless in the cold weather through long, dark nights.
The walk will begin at the Strathmore Overnight Shelter, at 4:00pm, with 2km and 5km routes that go through downtown. A map outlining the route is below.
Before the walk there will be coffee and special guests that will include MLA Leela Aheer and Mayor Pat Fule. There will also be a volunteer appreciation presentation to thank all of our hardworking volunteers that allow us to keep our doors open 365 days a year. Following the walk there will be a dinner put on by the shelter’s Board of Directors to thank all of the walkers for their participation.
Participants are encouraged to gather pledges and donations for the walk. Pledge sheets are available by clicking here. All of the donations will go directly to the Strathmore Overnight Shelter to help those who are homeless within our community. The Strathmore Overnight Shelter offers anyone in need, 18 and over, warm meals, a safe place to sleep, clothing, laundry services, shower facilities, and the ability to be connected with community supports and services.
If you are interested in volunteering at the event, the Strathmore Overnight Shelter is looking for help with registration, traffic assistance, and serving dinner. You can let us know that you’re interested in volunteering by reaching out through our Facebook page or calling us at 403-880-3171.
